Earlier this month, Love Drogheda BID hosted a highly productive meeting with key local stakeholders, including retail representatives, An Garda Síochána, Drogheda & District Chamber, and Louth County Council, as preparations ramp up for the busy Christmas season.
The meeting focused on coordinated actions to enhance safety, support local businesses, and create a welcoming atmosphere for shoppers and visitors throughout the festive period in Drogheda.
An Garda Síochána confirmed that they will deliver a significant on-street policing presence, with uniformed beats and plain-clothes detectives active across the town centre. Yvette McCormack from the Community Policing Unit noted "We are confident that this increased visibility will to reassure businesses, deter anti-social behaviour, and ensure a safe environment during peak shopping weeks".
Love Drogheda BID also raised the need for improved street lighting in key areas of the town centre to support safety, accessibility, and the overall visitor experience. It was noted that any issues with street lighting should be logged via the Deadsure App which is a national app with response listed via email.
As part of efforts to strengthen the festive atmosphere, Mark Davies, Evening and Night Time Economy Officer and Love Drogheda BID are encouraging local businesses to dress their shop windows for Christmas and to use lighting timers to maintain bright, active frontages into the evening. This initiative aims to boost footfall, highlight Drogheda’s retail offering, and contribute to a vibrant, welcoming town centre.
“We hope that by activating shop frontages in the lead up to Christmas, when people come into view the Christmas Lights they will have an opportunity to window shop and see the excellent selection in our independent retailers.”
Love Drogheda BID will continue to work closely with all partners over the coming weeks to deliver a safe, attractive, and successful Christmas season for businesses, residents, and visitors.
