8% sales growth in 2025 highlights positive momentum for Drogheda’s local economy
Love Drogheda is pleased to share a positive update on the performance of the Love Drogheda Gift Card, which continues to play an important role in supporting local businesses and keeping spending within the town and surrounding areas.
In 2025, sales of the Love Drogheda Gift Card increased by 8%, marking a clear upward trend and a strong foundation for future growth. While there is still significant potential to expand the scheme further, this progress demonstrates growing awareness and support from the Drogheda Community in seeking to support our local businesses.
The Gift Card is now accepted in 242 businesses across Drogheda and the surrounding area, with 173 businesses actively accepting the card during 2025. This strong uptake illustrates the variety, diversity and strength of the local business community, spanning retail, hospitality, services, and leisure where you can get a haircut, fuel your home, get a new wardrobe or take your other half out for a meal and much much more!
In terms of redemptions, Penney’s proved the most popular business to use Love Drogheda Gift Cards, while the Railway Tavern also proved popular among the hospitality businesses. Smyths Toys also recorded strong performance, particularly during peak family and seasonal spending periods. A new feature for the Drogheda Gift Card is the digital gift card which can be loaded onto your phone and digital wallet. This year, Ariosa Coffee on Laurence Street led the way as the business with the highest level of digital gift card redemptions.
Overall redemption figures for2025 highlight the tangible economic impact of the initiative:
- €185,277 redeemed through physical Love Drogheda Gift Cards
- €11,196 redeemed through digital Gift Card
“These figures show that the Love Drogheda Gift Card is delivering real value to local businesses while offering a convenient way for people to support Drogheda,” said Sarah Taaffe, Love Drogheda Chairperson. “We see this as a positive step, and growing digital usage will be a key priority for us in 2026.”
