The streets of Drogheda were transformed into a vibrant tapestry of culture, heritage, and community spirit this week as the town successfully delivered an ambitious four-day St. Patrick’s Day festival. Organized through a landmark collaboration between Drogheda Festivals and Scotch Hall, the festivities drew tens of thousands of residents and visitors to the town centre. Love Drogheda BID was proud to be among the main sponsors of this event alongside Louth County Council, Drogheda Councillors and businesses.

The extended weekend featured a diverse program designed to celebrate Irish identity in all its forms, including family fun, lively céilís, "Pop-up Gaeltachts," Irish language games, and a consistent schedule of live music that animated Drogheda. St Patrick recreated his historic journey up the Boyne River and fireworks over Scotch Hall delighted crowds on Sunday.
The cornerstone of the celebrations was the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. This year, the event took on a magical atmosphere with the theme "Once Upon a Panto," honouring the 75th anniversary of the Drogheda Panto. The parade showcased the immense creativity of the region, featuring meticulously designed floats and panto characters galore from businesses and community groups as well as showcases from local scouts, girl guides, sporting organisations, theatre troupes, local businesses, and the emergency services.

In a continued commitment to inclusivity, the "Sensory Street" initiative was once again implemented. By reducing noise levels along a designated portion of the route, the organizers ensured that individuals with sensory sensitivities could enjoy the spectacle in a comfortable and welcoming environment.
At a time when many community groups across the country are facing significant financial challenges in maintaining local parades, the success of Drogheda’s four-day program is a testament to the organising committee. The event was made possible through the unwavering dedication of volunteer organisers and the vital support of sponsors, including Louth County Council, local councillors, Love Drogheda BID and a number of local businesses.

Trevor Connolly, CEO of Love Drogheda BID, commented on the success of the partnership:
"The 4 day programme of events and festivities has demonstrated the incredible power of volunteerism and partnership. When our community pulls together we create something that is transformative for the town. Love Drogheda BID were delighted to be a main sponsor again this year and seeing the streets filled with families and witnessing the best of Drogheda on display reinforces why this parade is so vital. It was wonderful to see the level of creativity from all participants and especially pleasing to see some of the new entrants this year from Lativia, the Philippines, China, India and across the globe”.

Love Drogheda BID extends its sincere gratitude to the volunteers of Drogheda Festivals and the management at Scotch Hall for their vision and execution. We also acknowledge the essential contributions of Louth County Council and the many local businesses whose sponsorship ensured that Drogheda could host a celebration of this magnitude.
